This week, NZ Labour Hire has stepped in to support hundreds of visa holders left in a difficult situation following the liquidation of ELE Recruitment. A total of $27,000 in cash has been distributed to workers who, despite successfully completing several assignments, are now facing unpaid wages for the last two weeks of work and lost holiday pay.
Many of these individuals are separated from their families and are currently unable to work due to pending changes in their visa conditions. Yet, their resilience is inspiring—greeting the situation with positivity, smiles, and even “Merry Christmas” cheers.
NZ Labour Hire has called on the community to assist these workers where possible, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by temporary visa holders in New Zealand’s labour market.
